What is Christmas?
For many of us, December is still very much evidenced by the Christmas holidays. Family and friends get together, and our eyes shine with every single traditional sweet and gift under the Christmas tree. Here, in Portugal, we, sometimes, hear someone saying “Christmas is when a man wants”. This always sounded at my ears as the recognition that we could choose to do more for ourselves, for the others and for the environment, not only on Christmas, but throughout the year.
After all, what is Christmas? Yes, it represents the birth of Jesus Christ. But what is, in fact, Christmas? My answer is Love. It doesn’t matter if it comes from a religious, a social, an economic, a political or any personal point of view. Above all, what guides us on Christmas is Love. We can see it and feel it in every gift we give and receive, in every meal we prepare and taste, in every word we say and listen, in every smile we show and tear we drop. Love is perfect as it is and it doesn’t have anything to do with the perfection that our egos aim to achieve, which is never enough. Love is the absolute and the ultimate ability to accept things as they are and never ever lowering our arms to a more evocative clarity of us, as souls in this Earth.
And we don’t have to celebrate Christmas to feel the challenges of Love. We are all connected to each other as if there was an invisible chord that pulls us to whatever makes us grow more and more. It is a continuous process of giving and receiving, of cause and effect, no matter our life’ story.
Love is that thing we all search and find hard to find. We all want to feel good about ourselves, to be happy no matter what. Yet, we resist and fear everything that comes in our way. If it is “good”, we doubt and distrust it; if it is “bad”, we get angry and frustrated at it. In the end, we are in a constant rejecting state of being. And what is “good” and “bad”, but a result of personal mental definitions, that we, by believing them, assume as real? We feel according to our beliefs. The fear’s way only feeds our egos. If we want to finally be at peace with ourselves, we have to choose the Love’s path, despite all the adversities.
All my life, I celebrated Christmas with family and friends. I never saw a clear meaning in it, I just assumed it as a social tradition, in which my family and (therefore) I was included. As a young child, my focus was on how many gifts I received. As a teenager, my focus was on how many sweets I could eat. As a young adult, my focus was on how could I get rid of that mandatory hypocritical and consumerist tradition.
Now, whatever definition I have of myself, my focus is in following my heart’s intuition, keeping a strong, neutral and flexible state of mind. All days have equal importance to me and if someone wants to name a few of them as “Christmas”, that’s fine. Wherever I go, I take my priorities, beliefs, and commitments with me, and, according to these, I also take the responsibility to choose.
I am more and more at peace with myself, not because I make perfect infallible choices, but because I pursue a purpose in each of them. This can really hold me, regardless of the chaos out there. I am learning to validate my feelings, to express my true essence through my words and to fill my mind with positive thoughts. Putting this into practice can be extremely challenging. In fact, I believe it’s a lifetime work. However, its power is so worth it, especially as an internal vibrational help request. If I don’t have anything else, I know I can guide myself through the frequency of my thoughts. If they vibrate Love, they can only take me to a beautiful place.
Having changed my diet years ago, from a flesh-centered to a whole plant based one, made me grow in a way that I never expected. I, now, choose to continue embracing that initial choice, knowing that it’s part of my evolution process. It is no longer just a matter of health, an ethical issue, a professional activity, an emotional state of mind, a social embarrassment or a wish to be different. It is a whole, the only way possible, where the shiny stars and the beautiful hearts are patiently waiting for us. There is no other way, simply because everything else that doesn’t fit into whole plants includes whether needless violence or indigestible foods.
And yes, after this, we face the biggest challenges ever. Yet, this is like passing through the surfing area, before we get to the high sea. We know nothing, we face the obstacles, we get scared, we are so alone, but we feel that the only way out is to go forward, to never look back and to carefully follow our Highest Consciousness. And nobody is going to be there, telling us what to do, except ourSelves.
For this Christmas and for every single day of our lives, we wish we all fill our hearts with Love and be able to listen to the music that comes within, and even put the volume higher to reach the entire world, tuning in to the Eternal Sounds of the Universe.
Merry Christmas to you all!!!
