Last winter, me and Vasco created a very funny and grateful homemade business. We made a chocolate hazelnut spread, that reminded us a lot of “Nutella”, but much better and healthier, as it was sugar, dairy, palm oil and artificial flavors free, vegan and 100% organic. Besides that, it was made with lots of love; that alone could definitely bring it to the next level of quality.
Spreading Love in a Jar
We called it “Milet” and we decided to sell it to friends, family, and other people, who got very enthusiastic, as soon as they tasted it. We bought all the material we needed and we prepared more than one hundred orders of jars!
We spent about five months having lots of fun on this adventure. I remember we were so happy, that we stared at the blender, waiting to see the miracle happening. Of course, the best part was when we could, finally, eat the leftovers. Yummmmy!
We then stopped doing it, as we started other projects and activities.
But, guess what, we now decided to share everything with you!!! Yes, the secret recipe is, finally, being revealed!!!

100g of organic hazelnuts
100g of organic brown rice syrup
19g of organic virgin coconut oil (or deodorized coconut oil, for a neutral flavor)
12g of organic cacao powder
0,9g of sea salt
18g of pure water
Wash the hazelnuts, put them in a tray and toast them for about ten minutes, in the oven. Then, put the hazelnuts in a high-speed blender (for a fast process; we have an Optimum 9400, which is fantastic for nut butter, smoothies, sauces and other creamy or crumble combinations) or a food processor (for a slow process), and blend them till they get creamy.
Now, add the coconut oil and blend it again. If you choose to use the virgin version, you will get the natural coconut flavor, besides the cacao and the hazelnut ones. If you want to have a more similar “nutella” taste, choose the deodorized oil. Be aware that the organic virgin version is always healthier.
Put the mixture into a big bowl. If it is too hot, let it rest for a while, before you join the other ingredients. Then, add everything else to it and stir well with a wooden spoon.
You may, now, put it into a jar and keep it in the fridge. It will last for about two weeks. On cold days, you can leave it out of the fridge.
It’s time to spread it in a homemade delicious bread or in some fruit, and eat it!! Yes, we know, it’s creamy, delicious, you can feel every single ingredient and never ever get enough of it. Remember to share with your friends; that way, you won’t eat it all.

Cacao Hazelnut Spread
Vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free, palm oil free, super tasty and delicious!
- 100 g organic hazelnuts
- 100 g organic brown rice syrup
- 19 g organic virgin coconut oil
- 12 g organic cacao powder
- 0.9 g sea salt
- 18 g pure water
Wash the hazelnuts, put them in a tray and toast them for about ten minutes, in the oven.
Blend the hazelnuts in a high-speed blender until they get creamy.
Add the coconut oil and blend it again.
Put the mixture into a big bowl. If it is too hot, let it rest for a while, before joining the other ingredients.
Add everything else in the bowl and stir well with a wooden spoon.
Pour into jars.
For a neutral flavor, use deodorized coconut oil.
It's important that the hazelnuts get creamy when blended, that's why a high-speed blender is recommended.
