This is one of our favorite parks in Lisbon. It’s called Parque José Gomes Ferreira and it’s located in the neighborhood of Alvalade. Some people also call it Mata de Alvalade, sort of Forest of Alvalade, because it looks more like a forest, rather than a conventional city park. That’s why we love it. We usually go there with Bogas, so he can stretch his legs and feel free to play and run as he wishes.
One of these days, we found out that some of the trees are fig trees. One in particular became our close friend. It’s inside the park, but away from the main area where people usually go. As I love figs (Vasco not so much), I had to taste them. We picked a few from the top and they were very, very sweet. Bogas also ate some, although he doesn’t appreciate fruit that much.
Now, every time we go to the park, we check how the figs are. It’s our secret place. Well, not so secret anymore, as we are gladly sharing it with you.
How awesome is it to eat fruit directly from a tree? Actually, we are very happy to have our own sprouts and celery at our balcony, that Vasco carefully grows. It’s so good to pick them and put that fresh variety of tastes and textures in our mouth. Maybe planting our own trees is the next step, who knows 🙂
